New Month. New Beginnings.
Hey friends, who is following along over on Instagram lives with me. I usually go live on Wednesdays around 2pm.
But back to those Instagram lives, so far we have gone over a small sampling of what we will be working on together inside a health coaching session. We have covered the likes such as the Wheel of Wellness, Summertime Swaps for BBQ season, Routines and Habits, and more.
Instagram Live: Habits and Routines 6/28/23
In our live that I have linked above, we went over the new month of prospects when it comes to our positive habits and routines. I personally have made and kept some really great habits this year but its been a hard road that I am restarting two of my habits: drinking water before coffee and eating breakfast before I leave for work. I want to know what your positive habit is that your wanting to start this month, it may be something new or something your restarting because you really want it to happen.
Were not going to get discouraged by not meeting this goal of a new positive habit. “Why? Doesn’t that mean I failed?”
No it does not. Sometimes we may be starting a journey or answering a call that we are aware of but not yet ready to accept. I recently read a great book that put the path of the journeys into perspective, in The Journey Blueprint by Julie M. Bouche. We may have many unanswered calls, the call to change your diet because your doctor told you so may be one of those unanswered calls. When you look at the prospect of changing a diet, it may seem hard and unattainable at first, but with time you make routines with what works and even begin to “crave” certain new foods.
For me the habit of eating breakfast before I leave my house is to try and curve my spending at work. I am able to just swipe my identification badge and viola! Sometimes it’s good, like when my husband is tired and my kids want something we don’t have in the house. Swipe! Chicken tenders and some sides. There’s nothing about saving money that will stop me from doing that, its a treat and the chicken tenders are baked. But I tend to spend way more than I would like on a $5 breakfast burritos and vegetable spring rolls, don’t even get me started on the new FroYo machine at work.
About the water. Yes. You’ve heard me say it before, its best to drink at least 8oz of water when we wake up from sleeping. Why? Because while we sleep we are dehydrating slowly. It’s interesting isn’t it. I learned that we should be drinking at least 80z of water first thing in the morning before drinking coffee (like I do) or another breakfast drink of choice. I use lemon water, it taste good and according to the Cleveland clinic online drinking lemon water first thing in the morning it has a host of benefits rehydrating and gut health being the top two. I’ll let you read there article titled “7 reasons to start your day with lemon water” as it’s super easy to read and interesting. Plus I want the original article to get its due credit. Especially in Arizona where its already been over the 90 mark (I can’t find the 100 mark") has been 67 days this year already, the first was on May 5th according to the Extreme Weather Watch online. So we need that extra boost of hydration. You can also put a pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt in your water to add electrolytes.
Some of my other routines that I want to do and so far have been successful with are to add back in (yes I said back in) more fruits and vegetables, maximize my meal prep, go on a fun walk with my kids. Fruits and Vegetables, other than being great for us since there natures candy (eat the rainbow) is that they add back in needed hydration. Maximizing my meal prep means easy meals and saved cost on food bills. We like to dehydrate and make our own spices when we have the access to the organic produce, plus having some dehydrated leeks go great in all the breakfast burrito bases that the kids gobble up completely. Mom win of adding in more veggies to there day as well.
I hope you found this insightful, make sure to join the mailing list to be notified of another post coming soon. I hope your all having a great weekend, stay safe.
Many Blessings, Mercedes.
